3Com's powerful NETBuilder II routers combine leading-edge technology with a flexible, modular design to satisfy your internetworking needs today and in the future. The routers integrate both WAN (Frame Relay, ISDN, leased lines, and ATM) and LAN (Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, and ATM) technologies, delivering the most effective solution for LAN/WAN band-width mismatch. The platforms support virtual private network (VPN) applications for secure remote access and intranet/extranet connectivity. NETBuilder II routers provide high performance, network availability, and scalable growth, along with VPN tunneling and security applications to build secure remote access, intranets, and extranets. The platforms offer flexibility with 4-slot, 8-slot, and 8-slot extended chassis that all accept regular and extended format modules. Feature-rich Enterprise OS software provides the flexibility and intelligence required to meet today's rapidly changing networking requirements. It delivers a full set of protocols, including IP, IPX, AppleTalk, SNA, VINES, and DECnet. In addition, the value-added functions such as compression, encryption, prioritization, and disaster recovery provide the most efficient options to maximize utilization of WAN connectivity. With its selection of chassis sizes, hot-swappable interface modules, full-featured software packages, and management facilities, the NETBuilder II routers provide unsurpassed WAN value. The DPE EZBuilt System includes the NETBuilder II chassis, DPE module, and a Flash card preloaded with the Extended WAN software package. The Dual Processor Engine (DPE) module is the central processor for the NETBuilder II system. It includes a flash memory drive for the system software as well as a second flash memory drive for back-up. Firmware parameters set with the software SysconF command and with the firmware boot monitor are stored on the flash PROM (FPROM). A console port on the front of the module provides local management.
