3Com EtherLink 10/100 PCI network interface cards with 3XP processor work in tandem with servers, desktops, and workstations to provide unprecedented performance, intelligence, and data security. This new generation of Fast Ethernet NIC is uniquely optimized for Windows 2000 to reduce CPU utilization and enhance performance by offloading TCP/IP networking tasks from the host system to the NIC's onboard 3XP processor. Running cycle-intensive IPSec encryption algorithms, TCP segmentation, and TCP/IP checksum operations on the NIC's 3XP processor and encryption chip delivers secure, reliable connections while maximizing system performance. 3Com pioneered the concept of offloading IP checksum operations in 1998. The new 3XP processor in this powerful NIC takes offloading one step further by offloading the TCP segmentation process from the host CPU to the NIC. Offloading this function further accelerates system processing and improves application response times. The 3XP processor and encryption chip work in tandem to accelerate the processing of IPSec encryption algorithms. You no longer have to make a choice between system performance and protection for sensitive data.
