The Advanced Database Feature, a new feature of IBM VisualAge Smalltalk, enhances DB2 applications to optimize the speed, features, and scalability of the IBM DB2 family of products. The Advanced Database Feature adds a thin Smalltalk layer to the most commonly used native Universal Database (UDB) capabilities and is intended for those DB2 applications that require higher performance. With a detailed knowledge of DB2, a programmer can use the capabilities of the Advanced Database Feature to improve performance on DB2-specific applications. This feature also includes a migration path from the standard DB2 database access shipped within the base VisualAge Smalltalk Enterprise Version product.
