With a 2x8 Span Port switch, network managers can simultaneously monitor and analyze two networks of any fiber topology. These transparent, non-blocking SpyderSwitches enable a protocol analyzer to perform real-time monitoring and analysis across multiple networks. The innovative all-optical technology enables a single SpyderSwitch to support all fiber topologies, thus eliminating the need to purchase different switches for each topology being monitored. Another key benefit of the all-optical technology is that it eliminates the risk of data being lost or corrupted in conversion. 2x8 Span Port switches support monitoring any two network subset of eight networks, regardless of topology. For example, the 2x8 Span Port switch could support simultaneous monitoring of network 1 (ATM) with an ATM protocol analyzer distributed system, and network 2 (GigaBit Ethernet) with a GigaBit Ethernet Sniffer distributed system.Span Port switches connect directly to span ports on major manufacturers' network switches, such as Cisco's Catalyst series. Because these switches are not in-line, network traffic flows uninterrupted regardless of whether power is available to the Span Port switch, or whether the protocol analyzer is in use. These switches support all the functionality typically associated with span ports. In particular, because they are able to transmit and receive data through a single port, they support the "link confirmation" requirement found in the latest GigaBit network switches. The all-optical flexibility means that Span Ports on these switches can also be used in "dual transmit" mode.
