Notification Server is the key server component for the Notification System. It installs and manages the Altiris Agent. It manages the Notification Database. The Altiris Console is provided for interacting with the Notification Server as well as most of the other Notification Server components. You can install one or more Notification Servers in your enterprise, based on your needs. Each Notification Server manages its own Altiris Agents, has its own Notification Database, and can be accessed by the Altiris Console. To provide a way to view all of your inventory data, you can then forward inventory data up from these Notification Servers to one Notification Server. Notification Server runs based on policies set by an administrator. These policies activate components of Notification Server that are used to process and store inventory data, host Web pages, and many other tasks. This simplifies the administration of systems management in your distributed network environment. Notification Server provides a common set of capabilities to all the Altiris solutions. Notification Server automatically distributes the conditions to be monitored on the Altiris-enabled computers, and when a specific condition is found, the Notification Server is notified.
