These serial host adapters provide 2, 4, or 8 PCI-bus links for communication servers, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and other data-collection devices. Each card has two or more UARTs (universal asynchronous receiver/transmitters), which are integrated circuits that convert bytes from the computer bus into serial bits for transmission. Integration problems are a thing of the past with these adapters, since they support all PCI interrupts, giving you more IRQs to choose from when installing.
