The ELSA LANCOM Public Spot Option is the ideal solution for public wireless LANs because wireless LANs corresponding to the Wi-Fi standard (IEEE 802.11b) are well suited for corporate networks and wireless home networking. However, the standard does not provide any mechanism of single user authentication and accounting for public access services. This drawback is removed by the ELSA Open User Authentication (OUA), the core component of the ELSA LANCOM Public Spot Option. The OUA procedure realizes the authentication of all wireless clients via user name and password. It verifies the authorization of single users via RADIUS. Accounting data (online time and data volume) can be passed on to the central RADIUS server per user and per session. Client PCs need a Wi-Fi-certified wireless card (e.g. ELSA AirLancer), TCP/IP and an Internet browser. Additional software is not needed.
