Retrospect Disk-to-Disk is the first backup software designed to perform business-class backups to 1394 or USB2 external hard drives, which can easily be unplugged and rotated to a safe offsite location for disaster recovery purposes. Now businesses whose backups fit onto one or more external hard drives have a cost-effective and easy-to-manage alternative to tape drives and autoloaders. Designed for use in small and midsize businesses and workgroups of large enterprises, Retrospect Disk-to-Disk protects a single Microsoft Windows server, and can be extended with client licenses that back up networked desktop and notebook computers as well. Retrospect Disk-to-Disk protects one server, including data, operating system files and settings, device drivers, as well as applications, their settings, and files that are open and in use. It backs up Windows file and application servers, including SQL Server and Exchange Server, as well as desktops and notebooks. This Retrospect edition supports CD/DVD media, but does not back up to tape. Because a high-capacity external hard drive can hold more data than a typical tape, backups to a hard drive can run unattended without requiring the manual insertion of additional backup media or the purchase of a more costly tape autoloader. Retrospect also eliminates the complex manual processes typically required to implement an onsite/offsite backup strategy. A business can easily protect against catastrophic loss of data with as few as two external hard drives, keeping one hard drive onsite and rotating the other to a safe offsite location. Retrospect's patented Progressive Backup saves time because it backs up only new and changed files after the first full backup. Retrospect performs accurate Smart Restores without bringing back unwanted files and folders that were previously deleted, renamed, or moved.
