IBM offers Ethernet 10/100 PCI Adapter. Adapter fault tolerance protects the server's network link from failure of the cable connector or adapter by using a redundant link paired with the primary link in a backup mode. The redundant link can be a matching adapter or for some IBM Netfinity servers may be a matching server-embedded 10/100 Ethernet connection. The Ethernet 10/100 PCI Adapter gives support for PCI Hotplug when installed in a system that supports Hotplug such as the Netfinity 5500 and 7000 MT10. This feature allows the adapter to be removed from the system and replaced with another adapter without powering off the system. The adapter supports adapter load balancing enabling the server to add scaleable bandwidth as traffic demands grow. Adapter load balancing manages outgoing server traffic across up to four like adapters. Server bandwidth can scale up to 800mbps in a full-duplex switched environment. This adapter also provides link protection through adapter fault tolerance. Auto-negotiation of speed and duplex mode facilitates the use of the adapter in shared or switched environments running at either speed. Bus mastering architecture offers outstanding performance with low server CPU utilization.
