The Quadratic Programming (QP) Solutions product includes two standalone solver programs incorporating library modules to solve quadratic programming problems, with linear constraints and a convex quadratic objective. One solver uses a two-stage simplex-based algorithm, and the other uses an interior point algorithm applied to a regularized form of the problem. Since the optimum may occur in the interior of the feasible region, the simplex method alone cannot be used to solve QP problems. In its first stage, the simplex-based algorithm solves a sequence of approximating LP problems and related very simple QP problems until successive approximations are "close enough" together. In its second stage, this solver analyzes the QP problem directly, using an extension of the simplex method that permits a quadratic objective function and converges very rapidly when given a good starting value.
