Each System Resource Module (SRM) provides arbitration and termination for two 256 Mbps PPX data paths. One SRM is included with each BLN and BCN. Designated the SRM-L, it also provides a 25-pin D-connector for a terminal or modem to access the Technician Interface for diagnostic and maintenance operations. The BLN and BCN also support an optional SRM for 1 Gbps total bandwidth and PPX redundancy. Designated the SRM-F, it supports the two remaining 256 Mbps PPX data paths. With both the SRM-L and SRM-F installed, each FRE and ARE can access the four PPX paths. The two SRMs provide redundancy for nonstop operation if one SRM fails. A malfunctioning SRM can be hot-swapped with a new SRM while two other data paths continue to operate at 512 Mbps aggregate.
