The Nortel Networks Passport 4400 series of multiservice WAN access devices carry telephony, fax, video, local area network (LAN), and legacy-data traffic from the branch or small office over a single wide area network (WAN) link. The Passport 4400 series provides an efficient, reliable, and easily managed WAN access solution with sophisticated compression and bandwidth management, and superior Quality of Service (QoS) for all applications. Part of the portfolio of products from Nortel Networks the Passport 4400 series saves money on branch and small-office telephony and data communications, provides a quick payback from high-quality voice over your data network, and eases deployment of new business and technology applications. The Passport 4455 is a higher performance version of the 5-slot 4450 platform intended to serve as central switching node in 4400-only networks. In larger networks, this role would be performed by Passport 6400/7400 products. The Passport 4400 series introduces a new, highly efficient, standards-based link protocol called Passport Access Network Link (PANL), which optimizes link utilization (generally the most significant cost component for branch access) for multimedia traffic.
