SMC's EZ CardBus 10/100 is an Ethernet/Fast Ethernet solution for CardBus-compatible laptop and notebook computers. With the EZ CardBus 10/100, mobile computer users can enjoy the same high-speed, 32-bit PCI bus performance that had previously been limited to desktop computers. The dual-speed EZ CardBus 10/100 adapter is compatible with 10Base-T Ethernet and 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet networks and automatically determines the speed of the network connection. Just connect a single RJ-45 cable directly to a 10Base-T or 100Base-TX hub or switch, and the EZ CardBus 10/100 automatically changes settings based on the speed of the port.The EZ CardBus 10/100 supports the CardBus standard, offering higher levels of performance than the 16-bit PC Card standard. By comparison, 32-bit CardBus adapters take advantage of internal bus speeds that can be from four to six times faster than 16-bit PC Cards. As a result, CardBus technology eliminates the interface bottleneck that older 16-bit PC cards experience. Since CardBus performance attains the same high level as the host platform's internal (PCI) system bus, it is an ideal way to add 100 Mbps LAN, SCSI II, video conferencing, and other high-performance capabilities to notebook computers. Currently, only Windows 98 and Windows 95 support CardBus.
