Progressive scanning provides maximum resolution for a smoother, filmlike image when viewed on a high definition TV or large screen. The DVD-S550 offers progressive scanning of both NTSC and PAL signals. This new high performance video DAC ensures superior image quality with all video sources. Standard, Bright, Soft and Personal modes are available for adjusting the picture to obtain maximum image quality with various sources and room lighting conditions. CD Upsampling raises the CD sampling rate, for a smoother sound. It enables CD playback to approach the quality of DVDAudio. Once CD Upsampling is selected, it is automatically engaged whenever a CD is played. The DVD-S550 delivers sound quality that is superior to even some more expensive players for a number of reasons, one of which is a high performance 192kHz/24-bit audio DAC. When you're listening to movies late at night and turn down the volume during loud scenes, dynamic range suffers and you may miss some dialogue and other sounds. With the Night Mode, you can reduce the volume and still enjoy proper tonal balance and dynamic range. Now you can play PAL-format discs on NTSC televisions, and vice versa. The DVD-S550 will convert the formats with no loss of quality, to broaden your video enjoyment possibilities. The DVD-S550 will play almost any type of formats you are likely to have: DVDVideo, Super Video CD, Video CD, Picture CD, Audio CD, MP3, JPEG, DivX and WMA, as well as discs with DVD+RW/+R (Video/VR format), DVD-R/-RW (Video format), CD-R/RW. It is also compatible with MP3, JPEG, DivX and WMA multisession discs. The DVD-S550 makes operation extremely simple by displaying a variety of clearly understandable GUI menus right on the TV or monitor screen. It's easy to select and adjust any desired function with the remote control. You can view CDs with pictures, both Picture CD and JPEG types. Convenient functions allow you to zoom, rotate, flip and scan the pictures. If you or anyone in your family enjoys making discs with MP3 files, you'll appreciate the DVD-S550. It provides full MP3 compatibility, including Fast Forward, Rewind, Repeat and Shuffle Playback functions.
